FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF BROWN-OUTS?
- Underfrequency, this happens when there is not enough supply in the grid. Meaning power plants/aggregators can not meet the demand at any given time.
- Transmission system of the National Grid Corporation of The Philippines (NGCP) is damaged, malfunctions or scheduled for preventive maintenance.
- Our (INEC) distribution system is damaged ( cut wires such as three phase, primary and secondary lines, service drop, ground lead, busted transformers and cut out, collapsed poles and / or substation equipments malfunctioning.
- Likewise tree branches / leaves or foreign objects touching the distribution systems’ primary lines can cause power outages, hence the need of a regular right of way clearing.
It should be clear that as much as possible, outages are kept to the minimum. Hence, we schedule our heavy maintenance to coincide with the NGCP’s schedules of power interruption.
